An eleven-person Philippine business delegation, led by Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose L. Cuisia Jr., met and interacted with dozens of local American businesses to develop bi-lateral trade and business opportunities on October 23rd at the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.

The occasion was the Philippine Business Mission Forum that drew nearly 70 participants, most from mainstream American businesses and government agencies. The forum took place in the morning with B2B meetings in the afternoon and later at Ivar’s Salmon House where a concluding dinner was held.

“This was an unprecedented and hopefully watershed event in the growing business between the Philippines and Washington State,” said A. Barretto Ogilvie, President of the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of the Pacific Northwest, at the opening session.

The event was coordinated by the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of the Pacific Northwest with assistance from the Trade Development Alliance of Greater Seattle, Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Washington State Department of Commerce.

The Ambassador was joined by San Francisco Philippine Consulate General Henry Bensurto and Nicanor Bautista, Director of the Philippine Trade and Investment Commission in SF. There were additional staff members for the SF Consulate office as well.

Philippine business leaders that presented at the Business Forum were Dr. Bernardo Villegas of the University of the Asia and Pacific, Ronald Epelano, Vice President for DMCI Holding Company, Jose Marcardo, CEO for Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines, and EnglebertCamasura, Partner, Ward Howell International.

“This was one of the best international trade exchanges that we have attended,” noted John Anderson, CEO of the Global Development Partners, who intends to expand trade and business operations in the Philippines.

While the Philippine government delegation met with King County Executive Dow Constantine and Seattle Deputy Mayor Hyeok Kim at their respective offices, the Philippine business leaders met B2B with local business representatives.

According to Alex Borromeo, the Chamber’s event coordinator, there was complete satisfaction by all participants. “During the B2B meetings the place was literally a beehive of activity reflecting the intensity, seriousness and direction of the conversations.”

A late afternoon meeting with Starbuck senior executives at its flagship Roasterie on Capitol Hill was another highlight of the day. Discussions at a post-tour meeting opened the door for Starbucks to consider purchasing Philippine grown coffee to be included in its global bistro operations.

The Bellevue, WA based Solutions Resource branch, which has a reputation for providing IT staffing services and creating applications for mobile devices, moved its office to the Bellevue Impact Hub on the week of July 13, 2015. The Impact Hub is located in building 555 in Bellevue, WA (“Bellevue Impact Hub. Copyright Date Unknown.”). The street that this building is located on is 116th Ave NE which is on the east side of I-405 across from Downtown Bellevue (“Bellevue Impact Hub. Copyright Date Unknown.”). Solutions Resource moved its office to the Bellevue Impact Hub for a variety of reasons. One reason why the business relocated its office was to be located near any customers and potential clients, such as startup technology firms, that are located in downtown Bellevue or the Impact Hub that Solutions Resource is renting office space in. Another reason why the firm moved its office to the Impact Hub was because the company’s new location has more office space than it did at its original location on NE 8th Street in Bellevue. In this way, the company will have the office space that is necessary for conducting meetings and accommodating the staff members, volunteers, and interns that work at the organization. Additionally, the business moved its office to another location in Bellevue because it wanted to be located in a place that staff members, interns, and volunteers could access without having to commute a long distance to travel to the company. Finally, Jet Castro, the founder of Solutions Resource, pointed out in a telephone call with one of his interns, that there could be a number of events, such as technology seminars, that the Impact Hub offers which could allow Solutions Resource to network with a number of organizations and possibly conduct business with those entities in the present or future time.

 

The office move to the Bellevue Impact Hub was an important business decision for Solutions Resource to make. That way, Solutions Resource and its clients and potential customers will not have to spend an unnecessary amount of time commuting to each others’ offices if they want to conduct business together. The office move was also an important priority for Solutions Resource because the move allowed the firm to find a location that its staff members, interns, and volunteers could access. That way, those people do not have to spend an unreasonable amount of time traveling to the enterprise if they have work that they need to do, such as meeting with other colleagues, for the organization. Moreover, the Bellevue Impact Hub provided Solutions Resource with the office space that it needed so that it could accommodate the staff members, volunteers, and interns who work at the company. In this way, those people will not have to work in remote locations, such as a library or coffee shop, if they have work that they need to conduct for Solutions Resource. In a similar situation, the office space at the Impact Hub in Bellevue may be the size that Solutions Resource is looking for if colleagues need to meet with each other. This situation also holds true if Solutions Resource needs to meet with its clients or potential customers. In conclusion to this information, Jet Castro pointed out in a telephone call with his intern, Tyler Nelson, that the office move was an important business decision for the firm to make because the office space that the Bellevue Impact Hub was marketing to Solutions Resource included a space where conferences and seminars could be conducted. In that way, Solutions Resource would have a way to attend those events or plan an event in that location as a way to meet with its clients and prospective customers and look for potential business opportunities with those markets.

On Thursday, June 18, 2015, Solutions Resource Resource’s founder, managing director, and principal consultant, Jet Castro, spoke at the International Business Strategies Panel at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. During the panel, Jet was part of a group of other speakers named Isa and Paul who provided the Minority Business Executive Program with information about the work that their companies performed when they conducted business in other countries. In addition to this information, Jet, Isa, and Paul provided the Minority Business Executive Program with details about how their companies acquired new clients in other countries. During the presentation, Jet provided the Minority Business Executive Program with information about the work that Solutions Resource performed in the Philippines including the number of years of success that Solutions Resource had with its markets and why it was successful with those audiences. Jet also provided the Minority Business Executive Program with information about the type of work that he performed when he managed staff members that are based in another country (“Verchot. Monday, June 8, 2015.”). Jet provided this information to this group of people because Solutions Resource is part of a company that is based in the Philippines called Solutions Resource IT. Furthermore, Jet informed the Minority Business Executive Program about why Solutions Resource’s clients received a variety of benefits if they outsource their website, search engine optimization, and software development needs to the Solutions Resource staff members in the Philippines (“Verchot. Monday, June 8, 2015.”). Moreover, Jet may have provided the Minority Business Executive Program with information about the high level of expertise and experience with technology skills, such as search engine optimization, that the Solutions Resource staff members possessed which benefited clients and potential customers in a variety of ways. That way, business owners in the Minority Business Executive Program who need to address business challenges, such as coming up with a website that is tailored to a mobile device like an Android, could receive information about what Solutions Resource can do to address their technology needs and decide whether or not they would want to conduct business with the enterprise in the present or future time.

 

 

The International Business Strategies Panel was an important event for Solutions Resource to speak at because the firm provided information to people about what the firm does to address the technological needs of its markets, the benefits that those audiences receive from outsourcing their technology needs, such as software development, to the firm, and the success that it had in addressing its clients’ needs.
